"The Arbitrage" MBAA Council Newsletter - November 6, 2007 (V1, E5)

Information source from the MBAA Council to MBA students
This week's topics:
Business Cards are Here! (from Jonathan)
Please pick up your business cards in the MBA lounge as soon as you get a chance. The business cards are packed in small boxes with each student's card on the front of the box. The boxes are slightly too large to fit into the Lounge mailboxes, so they have been sorted into stacks directly above the mailboxes.
Additional Leadership Positions - MPC (from Gabrielle - Secretary of MBAA)
MPC Description: The MBA Program Council has the responsibility to review changes to the courses offered in the MBA program, and review any new programs. The MPC members are faculty members and student representatives. As a member of the MPC, we have a great opportunity to influence changes in the MBA program. Statements are due to me (gneupert@u.washington.edu) by Wednesday at 5:00 pm. If you have any questions regarding the MPC please contact current second year reps Brooke Wells (bwells08@u.washington.edu) or Radhika Shenoy (rs34@u.washington.edu).
Message from Steffenie, VP of External Student Affairs
Hi, my name is Steffenie Birkeland and I'm the VP of External Student Affairs. My responsibilities include planning quarterly off-campus parties, organizing volunteers and a few of the social activities at LEAD week, and organizing volunteers and coordinating the alcohol for graduation. This role is a great way to facilitate networking among students in the full-time, evening and GMBA programs. It's also been a great opportunity to get to know the folks in the Programs office, who I've worked closely with the past 6 months. And, of course, who doesn't like to throw a good party?! Being VP of External Student Affairs has been a great opportunity for me to give back to the MBA program, interact with staff, meet new students and use some of the skills I've learned in the program (Solver can be a very effective tool for planning which appetizers to order!) On that note, the Fall Party is scheduled for November 17th, at 8:15pm at the Garage on Capitol Hill! Come play pool with friends and classmates, enjoy some great Northwest beer and sample some tasty appetizers! This event is free to MBA students and guests are $5. Please rsvp on catalyst: https://catalysttools.washington.edu/webq/survey/sbirk/44691
Renewable Energy Workstream Development (from Geoffrey)
Thanks to everyone who has been attending our renewable energy discussion forums. They have been a great success so far and we are excited about the possibility of creating a networking event some time in January. Thanks so much to Patrick Leslie for an amazing slide presentation on solar power last Nov 2. Our next event will be on Friday Nov 16 and we will have a special guest Jeff Canin in attendance. Jeff is an independant consultant for renewable energy companies. So we are looking forward to seeing everyone on our sustainabilityinfoshare list there.
MBAA Wiki
Did you know MBAA published information, including the MBAA Council Newsletter and meeting minutes, are documented and stored on a wiki site? Jonathan Shaw, our Prez, created this wiki last year to start tracking and documenting our MBAA meeting minutes. It has steadily grown to include other MBAA documentation. This wiki is a work in progress; look for more content updates in the near future.
