Wine
QFC in University has a great selection and great discounts. Generally better wine for the money than Costco if you purchase wines on sale that week. Usually purchase 1.5L bottles that are on sale for $10-$12 (Usually can find them marked down from $14-$16).
A TG that is just serving wine & beer usually goes through 12 bottles of wine (the ratio of red to white shifts from season to season as the weather changes).
Beer & Kegs
Beer consumption varies from one year to the next. It depends on the size of the class and generally just how much of a "drinking" class the first years are. Start with 2 kegs for the fall TGs and just get a sense for the speed at which they're being consumed. Try to run out of beer between 8:30 - 9:45pm so that everything is wrapped up and cleaned up by 10:15pm at the latest. Winter TGs naturally are less attended than fall and spring TGs. Reduce beer purchases in the winter by approximately 1/2 a keg.
Costco
Costco is great for purchasing almost all of the food for a TG, whether it's ready to be served (chips, soda, potato salad, etc.) or components for cooking (burgers, chicken, potatoes, etc.)
Since Costco is close to Georgetown, food for non-dinner TGs can be purchased on the same trip as the beer. Any food that requires more than 1 hour of prep will require a trip to Costco 2-3 days before the TG. Sometimes it's nice to get the Costco trip out of the way earlier in the week just to make Friday afternoon a little less hectic.
