This week's Topics:
MBA Lounge (from Anshu, VP of Resource Development)
There are more than 500 MBA students, faculty and staff, who do have legitimate access to the MBA Lounge. Although access to the lounge requires card access, it is up to all of us to ensure that the lounge is a great meeting place where it is safe, secure, and fun environment. Therefore, we must rely and trust others to take care of the MBA lounge like our "3rd Place Experience" (home and work being 1st and 2nd). Here are some simple rules and reminders for all of us to adhere to:
1- Keep it clean: Pick-up after you eat (tables, kitchen area, backrooms) and do not litter - use the trashcans!
2- Keep it down: It may be a heated team discussion or a foosball game, remember there are others in your vicinity who are trying to concentrate on their work.
3- Keep it secure: There have been some incidents of theft in the lounge during the last year - so be advised and make sure you don't let-in anyone into the lounge who you don't know and who's not carrying an access card. Don't open the door for people you don't know. Don't prop the door open, no matter how nice the weather is outside. When opening the door to the lounge and there's someone following you into the lounge, introduce yourself. It's a great security measure and a way to meet other students.
4- Keep it unclogged: Use the space wisely. This goes for the cubbie holes in the back, closet space and refrigerator space - don't use the cubbies holes in the back as your permanent storage, use the closet space wisely, and don't let your left-overs stay in the refrigerator for more than a week.
5- Keep an eye on your stuff: Use the space wisely. This goes for the cubbies holes in the back, closet space and refrigerator space - don't use the cubbies holes in the back as your permanent storage, use the closet space wisely, and don't let your left-overs stay in the refrigerator for more than a week.
6. If you find something valuable that belongs to another student: Hold onto it, e-mail the other student, and hand it to them personally. If you don't know who it belongs to, e-mail mbabull@u.washington, but still hold onto the item until it is claimed. Don't leave valuables in a mailbox - or anywhere in the Lounge - for someone to find later.
7- And most important: Come up with suggestions and ideas to improve our lounge! Email them to: Anshuman Singh, anshus@u.washington.edu

Mabel Printing and Computing (from Ashita, VP of IT)
The PCs in the lounge are not working but we are working to get this fixed.
Mabel, the printer located in the MBA Lounge, was purchased by a previous MBA class as their class gift to MBA students. Printing services and maintenance is funded by the MBAA. Therefore, we ask that you pay attention to printing etiquette and use Mabel for small, personal printing jobs related to MBA course work. Abuse of this privilege will force the MBAA to review other options to make sure all students benefit equally of these services.
Instruction on how to connecting your laptop to the printer is attached. If you are having problems, we are looking to publish a revised set of instructions for you.

- Printing Etiquette:
- Print final drafts only please. For PPT presentations, try printing 2-3 slides per page doubled sided.
- Print documents that are part of your course work. Refrain from printing personal information that you do not want others to see.
- Please retrieve your print job soon after hitting that print button from your laptop. Papers left in or on the printer will be thrown out by EOD.
- Students are allowed to print 60 pages per student per month. This is based on our budget for toner, paper, and maintenance for the coming year.
- You can print from the PCs located in the lounge once they are up and running again.
- Printing also can be done in any of the UW libraries across campus. Money is withdrawn from your husky card to pay for these printing services. For more information, please check out UW computing or speak with someone in the library.

Email Etiquette
As everyone is heading back to school and thinking about communicating with our classmates, we want to remind everyone on which email distribution list to use.
- Just to recap:
- mba2008@u.washington.edu (FT class of 2008)
- mba2009@u.washington.edu (FT class of 2009)
- mbamail@u.washington.edu (all FT students only)
- evemba@u.washington.ed (all evening MBA students)
- evemba2008@, evemba2009@, evemba2010@u.washington.edu (students not included in mbamail)
- mbabull@u.washington.edu (includes everyone who have subscribed to this list)
I have seen many messages being sent by members to the class (mba2008 and mba2009) about happenings that are not official MBA or club activities. Please remember that if it's not an official message it should be sent to mbabull. If it is an official message and you want all full-time students to receive it, please send it to mbamail. mbamail also includes the visiting exchange students. Finally, if you want to be inclusive of students in our other programs, you can use gmba2008 for the Global MBA students and evemba for the Evening MBA students.
Also, just a gentle reminder that there are staff members and alumni on mbamail and mbabull, so remember who's in your audience when you send your message.
Please look for emails about:
- Upcoming MBAA activities
- Club Events and Dues/Payment
- 1st Year Class Rep elections
That's all for now. Comments always welcome.
