IBM - Extreme Blue - Initial Interview
Jan 16 2008, 1:52 PM EST Here are my notes from the interview. 1) Know the company. Spend a few hours getting to know the company. What is their strategy, were have they come from, sales/revenues, recent acquisitions/sales, reason your merge well with their culture. 2) Know the Interviewer. Suzanna had a profile on Linked in and some videos on YouTube. 3) Read up on Extreme Blue. Know what products they have developed that interest you. IBM Extreme Blue is looking to place particular people in various projects. They are very specific about who can fit into the various projects and Suzanna is the primary gatekeeper (unlike a lot of interviews where the HR person is more of a filter). IBM is looking for people passionate about technology, the ability to drive towards goals, can commercialize a product, work well in a collaborative environment and will stay with IBM. During the interview, Suzanna kept coming back specific projects and why I thought I would be a good fit. Strategies that were helpful based on feedback from the BCC: 1) From the start of the interview, when you are talking about your history, keep tying back to IBM. If you can convince the interviewer that you understand IBM, have done your homework and are a good fit, then you can spend more time showing why your are the right person for the position and talking about Extreme Blue. 2) Mock interview 3) Pass on any advice to your fellow students before there interview. Claudia gave me some hints before I went into the interview that helped out. I tried to pass this onto fellow student. 4) At the end of the interview, make sure you talk about why you are a good fit. This is a great chance to match yourself to specific projects that interest you. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
